Growing together in Faith

Our Christian faith grows and deepens over a lifetime of exposure to the Word of God which begins with our Baptism. As we then make our commitment to that growth in our confirmation, we dedicate ourselves to an ever increasing understanding and appreciation of the grace that comes to us through the atoning sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. Therefore, we encourage our members and friends to join us on the continuing journey of faith as we gather together to study the scriptures, teach our young, and grow together in God’s grace. Listed below are the current offerings for our members and friends.

Sunday School

We currently are considering the best of many options for our young children, seeking the most useful and appropriate Bible based learning techniques and activities to help our children grow in Christ. We plan on having a program in place next year.

Junior Confirmation

The education of our young adults is very important to us. Therefore we follow the time-honored program of using the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism as augmented and edited by Dr. Edward Koehler ( Former professor at Concordia Teacher’s College in River Forest, Illinois)  We have found that these two resources provide a thorough avenue by which our students will gain a proper understanding of our cherished Lutheran traditions of faith. Our class meets on Saturday mornings from 9:00 – 10:00 o’clock (beginning September 8, 2007).

Sunday Adult Forum

After our morning worship service, interested members and friends gather in our conference room to discuss current issues in the church and in our society. A wide variety of topics offer those in attendance a wonderful opportunity to participate in discussion that help us to more completely understand our world today. Currently, our discussion is aided by Samuel Hill’s textbook entitled “The Handbook of Denominations”.   This class will begin on September 30, 2007.

Midweek Bible Study

True to the traditions of Christian learning, Good Shepherd offers a midweek in depth Bible study at 7:00 p.m. every Thursday evening. We meet together with the original Greek and Hebrew texts of the Bible, as well as a current study guide to one or another of the books of the Bible or a current topic posed in Scripture. Members and friends in attendance gather together in a non-threatening atmosphere to delve into the deep teachings of God.  This class will begin on October 4, 2007.
